Duffy's Sporting Goods

In the early 60s Duffy Landry was a commercial fisherman like many people in the small town of Pierre Part Louisiana. As they cleaned the catfish they caught they began selling it as bait to other commercial fishermen. As time went on the demand grew and grew so he purchased a freezer to store more bait as the demand kept growing. Around 1965 he and his wife Myrtle started Duffy’s and began to carry more bait options as well as many other items to cater to the local fishermen. Things were so busy at times semi trucks were unloaded in the parking lot and sold before anything needed to be put on the freezer. Hard to believe but In the hay days 4-5 truck loads of bait were sold in a days time!! As time went on he had his brother in law Earl Matherne join them with an adjoining mechanic and tire shop. For many years they along with their four sons served the community in many ways including being a full service gas station. The store was seen many times in episodes of Swamp People as the hunters offloaded boatloads of gators in front of spectators from all over the world. It is still visited by many from all over.

In November 2022...

his grandson Jacob and his wife Lyndsi purchased the store and dreamed of turning it back into the thriving business that it once was. In a years time they did just that by turning the store into more of a sporting goods store and catering to the many hunters that frequent the store. They hope that more people come to visit their little slice of heaven in great little  town of Pierre Part with great people who have supported them from the beginning.
